Immigration Control.

Following personal from Sidebotham. Begins.

1. We fully appreciate that your first

concern is to restrict immigration into Hong Kong,

and you will now have seen Foreign Office telegram

to Tamsui repeated to you as No. 1732. Foreign Office

urge, however, that H.M. Consul, Tamsui, is overwhelmed

with routine work despite the recent appointment of

Drinkall as Vice-Consul, and, as they attach greatest

importance to securing prompt receipt of detailed

Thany information from Formosa,Дare anxious that Consulate

should concentrate on this.

In above circumstances, therefore, we should

shoh as

Sympathetic

be very grateful if you would give as

consideration as possible to

Consul, Tamsui's

help in securing

request for office assistance to deal with visas

see paragraph 3 of my telegram No. 1733 referred to
